Today’s Buzz: The Legends Club Building New Event Center

Note from Buzz on Biz’s Neil Gordon:

Janie Toole is a former neighbor of mine and an accomplished event planner—having worked with Terry Wick for many years at a facility across from Augusta National.  She also owned her own floral shop as well.

A new event center is under development in the National Hills Shopping Center next to the Fresh Market on Washington Road.

The Legends Club, approximately 8,000 square feet, is a “ballroom convention center without the hotel,” according to events specialist Janie Toole.

It will be available as either one large space or three smaller ballrooms. There will also be two outdoor terraces adjacent to the building.

“It’s a new facility for just about anything,” Toole said.

Construction is scheduled for completion in mid February and the venue is already booking weddings, receptions and other events.

The Legends Club offers a catering, concierge and transportation services as well.

Today’s Buzz: Steak ‘N Shake Coming To Grovetown!

Posted by neilgordon On December - 29 - 2011

Courtesy: Columbia County Bureau

This is a rendering of a new Steak ‘n Shake planned on the corner of Jimmie Dyess Parkway and Belair Frontage Road. It’s expected to open in July.

The drive to visit the nearest Steak ’n Shake will soon become a lot shorter.

The popular burger joint, specializing in steak burgers and hand-dipped milkshakes, is expected to open in July at Jimmie Dyess Parkway and Belair Frontage Road in Columbia County, said franchise owner Preston Moss.

“My family had always loved (Steak ’n Shake),” said Moss, who works for Blanchard and Calhoun Insurance. “Every time we traveled, we would make it part of the plan. We knew where it was.”

Moss recently purchased the 2-acre vacant site for $950,000 from Ruby Tuesday, whose plans to build a restaurant there never materialized.

Some site work on the property was already done, he said.

The Grovetown site, next to the Interstate 20 eastbound on-ramp, gives the restaurant great visibility from both I-20 and Jimmie Dyess Parkway, Moss said.

About 38,000 vehicles drive on Jimmie Dyess Parkway daily, Moss said.

The3,500-square-foot restaurant will remain open 24 hours, seven days a week and serve breakfast. It will also have a drive-through window and employ about 100 people, Moss said.

Moss hopes work on the site will start in February.

Moss decided he wanted to open a Steak ’n Shake in the area about eight years ago, but was delayed as the restaurant chain underwent new ownership.

There are nearly 500 Steak ’n Shake restaurants in 22 states. The closest to Augusta area are in Atlanta, Macon, Ga., and Greenville, S.C.
