Today’s Buzz: From the Development Authority of Richmond County

Plant expansions and new business locations in the Augusta metro area have earned another national recognition by national economic development watchers in 2010. Augusta ranked ninth among mid-size metropolitan areas for total economic development projects in a survey released this week by Site Selection magazine.

The annual survey tallies new and expanded corporate facilities in various population categories. Augusta was ranked #9 in the 200,000 to 1,000,000 population category. It reports 21 completed projects in the Augusta area in 2010, according to the Development Authority of Richmond County.

The larger projects on the list included Convergent ER Solutions, Rural Sourcing Incorporated, SOLO Cup, Caraustar, Comcast, BioTest Pharma, and Bennett International in Augusta-Richmond County, MTU Detroit Diesel and MCA Sign in Aiken County, and US Fibers and Parkdale Mills in Edgefield County.

Georgia was ranked fifth in the country behind Texas, Ohio, Louisiana and Pennsylvania for Site Selection’s Governor’s Cup awards for the most new and expanded corporate facilities.
