Today’s Buzz: Wear Jeans To Work Day

Posted by neilgordon On November - 30 - 2010

COURTESY: GOLDEN HARVEST FOOD BANK AND KRUHU

What: Golden Harvest’s Extreme Dream: Everyone Eats!

When: Monday, December 6 (Wear Jeans to Work Day) Monday, December 6 through 11 (Food Drive)

Where: Businesses across the CSRA (Wear Jeans to Work Day) Warren Baptist Church on Washington Road (Food Drive)

Augusta, GA November 29, 2010 – Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is coming to Augusta and Golden Harvest Food Bank will be working with the show to help not only the deserving, local family selected to receive a new home, but also the neighborhood in which that family lives.

Golden Harvest partnered with KRUHU Creative + Design to launch: “Golden Harvest’s Extreme Dream: Everyone Eats!” which will kick off on Monday, December 6, 2010. The campaign’s goal is to raise $50,000 in addition to as much food as possible. Golden Harvest Food Bank will have a remote location set up at Warren Baptist Church on Washington Road to accept food and monetary donations from December 6 through December 11.

Our Extreme Dream campaign also includes a fundraising event in which then entire CSRA can easily participate. Gold Harvest is asking local businesses to encourage their employees to each contribute $5 to Golden Harvest’s Extreme Dream: Everyone Eats! Each employee contributing to the company donation would then be allowed to “Wear Jeans to Work” on Monday, December 6, 2010.

Any local businesses or schools wishing to participate can assign an employee to contact Travis McNeal at Golden Harvest Food Bank to get details about the campaign, a poster that can be placed in the business and information on making the office donation to the Extreme Dream campaign. Golden Harvest’s mission is: to END HUNGER in our 30-county service area in eastern Georgia and western South Carolina. In order to achieve this mission, it takes more than food. It takes funds. Golden Harvest can feed more people with one dollar than with many cans of food. For every ONE dollar donated, Golden Harvest is able to distribute SEVEN dollars worth of food.

Join Kruhu, Master Automotive, Warren Baptist Church, ADP, Supertruck, Shannon Rollings Real Estate and Phoenix Printers to help Golden Harvest achieve their Extreme Dream by getting local businesses to “Wear Jeans to Work” on Monday, December 6, donate food or funds at Warren Baptist Church on Washington Road or donate online at http://www.goldenharvest.org/Donate.aspx.

Golden Harvest is proud to be working with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to help feed a deserving, local family and the neighborhood in which they live. However, Golden Harvest couldn’t do it without the support of the people in the CSRA. So, from Golden Harvest – THANK YOU in advance for helping us achieve our Extreme Dream. We won’t stop working until Everyone Eats!

Seve Ballesteros Will Be Honored with EGCOA Award.

AUGUSTA, GA. (Nov. 29, 2010) – Club Car will receive the European Golf Course Owners Association’s Industry Award at the association’s European Golf Business Conference on Wednesday in London. The award is given annually to the company that demonstrates outstanding commitment to course owners’ efforts to grow the game of golf and make their businesses more successful.

“Club Car has a long history of support for European course owners and operators and for the golf industry overall,” said Marcel Welling, president of the EGCOA. “The company’s innovative products and strong customer service make Club Car one of our members’ most valuable resources.”

Club Car president and CEO Gary Michel called the award “extremely gratifying.”

“These are challenging times for many European course owners and operators, and we want to make sure they know that our products and our people are dedicated to their success,” Michel said.

The association’s EGCOA Award will be presented to Seve Ballesteros. Ballesteros retired from professional golf in July 2007 after being diagnosed with a brain tumor. As his health allows, Ballesteros continues to campaign and raise money for brain tumor research as well as to introduce golf to young people who lack sufficient financial means to learn the game.

Award winners are determined by the EGCOA board of directors.

Today’s Buzz: South Augusta Restaurant Changes

Posted by Bert Dean On November - 29 - 2010

Former Buzz Ambassador John Forde texted in a few updates:

1)The old Bojangles is now torn down in front of the Post Office on Peach Orchard Road

2)Old Golden Corral is going to be Hibachi Sushi Buffet at 3006 Peach Orchard Road. According to Loopnet, a real estate web service, Golden Corral vacated the property in mid May.

It was up for lease for about $10,000 per month or for sale. We’re not sure if the Hibachi Sushi Buffet backers are leasing or buying the property.

It is an 8,500 square foot restaurant with room for 150 cars in the parking lot.

NOTE FROM HEALTH CENTRAL EMPLOYEE TO BUZZ FOUNDER NEIL GORDON

The following is a quote from an HC employee discussing the January 1st takeover of HC by the Family Y.

“My job will not be affected, but the other employees will have to reapply for their jobs.  We hope they will do some renovations, but as long as they make any improvements it will be welcomed.  Also, supposedly the hosp. employees will keep their discounts if they come so many times per month so that will be good.”
