Augusta — Solo Cup Company is growing in Augusta, creating more than 70 jobs while adding new technology and processes. Quick Start will be the company’s partner in developing and delivering training for the new positions providing Solo employees with the advanced manufacturing skills to help the company continue to grow and thrive in Georgia.

Solo’s Augusta facility, which manufactures beverage cups, is adding new extrusion and printing equipment and expanding its forming processes in Augusta to meet increasing demand.

Quick Start is designing training for the new employees that will include equipment operation, safety, quality and advanced manufacturing technologies.

“Quick Start is very pleased to be partnering once again with Solo Cup Company as they continue to grow and create jobs in Georgia,” said Jackie Rohosky, Technical College System of Georgia assistant commissioner of economic development programs and head of Quick Start. “We’ve worked with this world-class company here in Augusta and at other Georgia operations many times. We’re honored to continue helping Solo bring good jobs to Georgia.”

Quick Start is Georgia’s internationally acclaimed economic development program that provides customized workforce training at no cost to qualified new, expanding and existing businesses in Georgia. Since 1967, Quick Start has trained more than 779,000 employees through 5,800 projects with a broad range of industries.

On September 21, Solo Cup Company representatives signed an agreement with Georgia Quick Start and Augusta Technical College to provide customized training for the new employees. The signing ceremony was held at 10:00AM at the Solo manufacturing facility.

The Quick Start training agreement was developed based on a Project Study that was conducted at Solo in Augusta. The training agreement is based on Solo’s commitment to provide approximately 72 new jobs for Georgians in the Richmond County area. Quick Start will be designing and developing training material, as well as providing instructors, for the classes.

The training program involves three distinct partners: Solo Cup Company, Augusta Technical College and Quick Start. Each partner will be responsible for the successful completion of this program. The partnership will not end when the Quick Start training is completed. Augusta Technical College will be available to assist Solo with ongoing training programs.

Nashville-based Council Ventures led a recently-completed $5 million Series A funding round in telemedicine solutions provider Reach Call Inc.

Reach Call, based in Augusta, Ga., provides a software-as-a-service telemedicine platform that allows specialists to evaluate and diagnose patients in remote and urban locations.

Council was joined by co-investors Croft & Bender of Atlanta and existing investor Georgia Health Sciences University of Augusta in providing the round to Reach.

“What really excited us about Reach were the clinical applications that allow a specialist to provide the right care remotely to the right patient at the right time,” said Council Ventures General Partner Gary Peat in a statement.

Founded in 2006 by a group of neurology and emergency medicine physicians from Georgia Health Sciences, Reach Call already counts several large health systems among its clients. It will use its new funding to grow its sales and marketing operations and invest in research and development to expand into new clinical specialties.

“Our customers, which include small rural hospitals and some of the largest health care systems, such as HCA and Ascension, have experienced the value of our telestroke solution and are working with REACH to extend that success in other specialties,” said Nirav Desai, REACH’s vice president of marketing and product management.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (September 28, 2010) – Whether it be a wedding, a proposal, living in an apartment, sitting on the Verandah with family on summer day, hanging out at the bar during the Masters, or seeing at least five familiar faces during Sunday Brunch, The Partridge Inn truly holds a special place in many Augustan’s hearts. The Partridge Inn will celebrate its mark in Augusta’s history with a gala 100-year anniversary event on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 7:00 p.m.

Entitled “Through the Decades,” this special party is open to the public and will feature a fun evening of heavy hors d’oeuvres, drinks and dancing.  The celebration will also include a silent auction to benefit the Augusta Museum of History, further supporting their efforts of preservation for future generations.  Tickets to the event are $30.00 per person and can be reserved by contacting Kelly Johnson at kjohnson@partridgeinn.com, 706-396-2610, or purchased through www.partridgeinn.com. All ticket proceeds will be donated to The Augusta Museum of History.

The hotel, a representative of Augusta’s grand tradition of hospitality, has remained a central gathering spot for vacationers and the city’s elite. The hotel will continue this long standing tradition when Augustans join together this October to celebrate their history with the hotel.  A live band will be present to perform songs from all different genres starting in the 40’s and moving through the years. From swing to disco, glam rock to pop, the soundtrack of the PI’s history will make guests of all ages want to put on their dancing shoes.

For the all-nighters, take the elevator home and cap the special night off with a stay at the hotel. The Partridge Inn is offering a special rate of $99.00 per night per room in celebration of the anniversary.

Also, guests should be sure to stop by to see The Partridge Inn’s time capsule on display throughout the end of the year.  Memorabilia from Augusta organizations has been gathered together to showcase the history of this grand hotel.  Memorabilia includes historic photos, special radio productions for the hotel, and materials such as the issue of The Augusta Chronicle which commemorates the hotel on its centennial anniversary. The time capsule will be sealed at the end of this year for future generations to enjoy.

The Partridge Inn began as a two-story house, the home of the Walton family, one of whose members, George Walton, was a Georgia signer of the Declaration of Independence.  In the 19thcentury, New York hotelier Morris Partridge acquired the property and began a small boarding house for his Northern visitors. Within two years of opening his establishment, Mr. Partridge was already adding the first of what would be five expansions to his burgeoning venture. After extensive renovations, 60 rooms were added enabling The Partridge Inn to open as an ‘official hostelry’ on January 8, 1910. On January 9, 1910, The Augusta Chronicle reported that “Partridge Inn Opened Saturday:  New Sixty Room Hostelry in Summerville Finished—Several Parties of People Expected During Week.”

The first hotel in Georgia selected for inclusion in Historic Hotels of America, The Partridge Inn is known for its distinctly Southern details, including beautiful verandahs, classic columns, stately magnolia trees and unparalleled personal service. The hotel encompasses 144 individually decorated executive rooms, studios and deluxe suites, a fitness center, an outdoor swimming pool, wireless internet and meeting facilities. The Partridge Inn’s signature restaurant, The P.I. Bar and Grill, offers fine dining options to suit any guest’s tastes.
